Fielding Norton is Managing Director of the Wilkes Center for Climate Science & Policy at the University of Utah. A climate scientist, educator, and former insurance executive, he works at the intersection of research, policy, and innovation to translate climate science into practical solutions. Norton earned an M.S. in applied physics and a Ph.D. in earth and planetary sciences from Harvard University, then spent more than 25 years in the global insurance and reinsurance industry, where he led teams using science- and engineering-based models to quantify, manage, and price extreme risks such as floods, hurricanes, and wildfires. He most recently served as chief enterprise risk officer of XL Group and later served as co-founder and chief insurance officer of FutureProof Technologies, a climate-focused insurtech that uses AI-enabled underwriting to better price climate risk and incentivize resilience.
